Inventing versus Re-designing

If you look through the past 100 years, Man has had no major breakthrough in medicine, the last big discovery was Penicillin in the early 1900s. We have only devised better antibiotics but no major breakthrough drug.
In transportation, we have not had any major vehicle designed since the airplane in early 1900s. We have designed better planes but no new mode of transport
This analogy can be extended across various fields.
The question to ask is..Have we become better re-designers than inventors.. ?

There are areas where we have made great progress - e.g. telecommunications (especially mobile and satellite phones). So its not as if we are becoming re-designers!

Even so, there's nothing wrong with trying to improve on perfection :-)

Guess the saturation point has been reached in some fields..so the only way to excel there is to re-design.
OTOH as ssb said there still exist fields whr inventions happen!

Hahah I think you say that because you are upto date with technology. So all the benefits have slowly seaped into your life and habits.

But ofcourse we have progressed, when you are 80+ you will tell your grandkids how the world has changed :)

In medicine : The next biggest invention would be "cure for cancer' and "Aids", if that Happenns..

Likewise could there be a cure for corruption, poverty, crime??? Guess I'm dreaming of utopia...
