Types of people..

I had not traveled in a train for over 10 years. Maybe because I either drove down to nearby places (for convenience) or flew down to where I wanted to go (for lack of time).
Just a few weeks ago, I took the morning train to Pune to meet an interior decorator who was going to design the new house that I had purchased in Pune. Just out of boredom for driving down, I took the morning train.
The journey through the Western Ghats (Hills) is extremely picturesque and very pleasant. One can read a book, look out of the window or grab a quick nap.
The Nap is slightly difficult with the numerous cell phones ringing all the time..
What struck me is that different types of people have different ring-tones.
Over the 3 hours in the train, I could almost picture the person based on the ring-one of his phone..
There was this priest who had a religious song for his ring-tone, while a person in mid thirties who has a Shakira song, and a younger college going teen had Coldplay.

This got me thinking.. Can we actually classify people based on ring-tones ?What are the other common ways of classifying people.. Clothes ? Type of pets ? Type of food ? Language spoken ? ..Can you think of any other non-obvious ways to classify people ??

I enjoy going by train too! Next time you must open the door and stand out-simply amazing during the rains!

And you Cannot classify people based on ringtones - my colleague n I both have Pink Floyd nos, hes 45 -and the only thing we share is the common liking for Floyd.

well.. all the different things you mentioned are really stemming from the root of what we might call as "personal taste". very rarely would you see someone listening to bhakti songs wearing a ragged jeans and flashing a tattoo :) or wearing a dhoti and dancing to Jackson's tunes... so i guess its like everyone has a "taste set" which caters to all of the different aspects like food, clothes, music (that includes ring-tones), appearance (hairstyle etc). and since this multi-dimensional taste set itself is so huge.. the permutations possible is even greater.. making people so different from one another at a lower level, even when sharing some common interests at a higher level.

hmm.. quite a reflection you had on the train ride.. :)

mobile tones could also depend not just on a person's personality but also their mood, or even the calling party. for eg i have different ring tones for different set of people (colleagues, home, friends etc).

what could classify people.. maybe their dress sense..for eg even though men all wear shirts, i think different styles tell different stories

i think the biggest issue is that we try to classify people,we never just accept them unconditionally!
